Diagnostic and treatment endoscopy

My friend has had 3 recent endoscopies for chronic Barretts.  The first was routine, then a 2nd with ultrasound assist and a diagnosis of esophogeal cancer.  The PT scan was negative for regional or metastatic involvement.  The 3rd endoscopy was for hopefully definitive tumor resection, as they thought it was limited to the mucous layer.  Unfortunately, the biopsies indicate that the margins aren't clear.   His surgeon is unsure of the best treatment plan, and will take his case in front of his peers (tumor board?) in 2 weeks.  This process has taken about 7 weeks to date, and is frustrating for my friend and wife.  Please, anyone who has been in this situation with a mucousal tumor, please share your experiences and treatment with me.  Thanks
