Recently diagnosed witha  small tumor on head of pancreas. They want to do the Whipple procedure. I have so many questions. Who is the best at doing these? Do you go to someone who has done 100 per year or only 30? What are the after affects? Is it better to have it done robotically or open you up? Are there any lingering affects? I have never had any surgery before in my life and are scared.

I had a whipple from a fairly new surgeon who had don't only 20 of these procedures! He certainly knew exactly what your was doing and I can tell you, I was well taken care of whilst in the hospital!  As for after effects, yes there will be some during healing and some times, they recommend a little chemo we a precautionary measure  to some patients!  Your tumor is small so your recovery should go well.

Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery
